My Summer Foundation | Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation

Monday, 3 July 2017
I mentioned the Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation in my June Favourites post and I realised then that I had to write a post on it because I want to say so much more about it.

In all honesty this isn't the best packaging I've seen for a foundation but it is sturdy and won't break easily. I therefore think that this foundation would be perfect for travelling, especially since it comes with it's own applicator and mirror.

Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation Natural Ivory 01 & Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

I tried using the sponge to apply it but I wasn't overly keen on it and found that it applied better with a brush. I used the Real Techniques 'Expert Face Brush' and it's perfect for buffing the foundation into the skin and creates a seamless finish.

I would say that this cushion foundation is a light coverage, but it can be built up to a medium coverage quite easily. Since I use a brush I think that it would apply lighter than if I was using the applicator provided but my skin is quite clear at the minute so I'm not needing much coverage, so it's perfect. Another factor which makes this foundation perfect for summer is that it has an SPF of 20 and so protecting your skin also.

Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation Natural Ivory 01

I got my cushion foundation in the shade 01 Natural Ivory, which is the lightest shade in the whole range. One thing I will say is that I would maybe like to try an even lighter shade because it is a tiny bit too dark for my skin if I do build it up to a medium coverage. Although if that ever happens I usually just add a little bronzer to my neck and chest just to blend the colour in a bit more and make it look more natural.

Since this liquid foundation is light, I don't find that it goes patchy or comes off at all, even in the hot weather. Although I always set my foundation with a powder anyway, especially since I'm having to hide the bags under my eyes (hayfever allergy) with concealer and that's definitely something you need to set.

I got the Maybelline Dream Cushion foundation a couple of weeks ago in Superdrug, and they were offering it at a reduced price (which I now can't remember, I think I saved either £2 or £4) as well as a 'buy one get the second half price' offer on all of Maybelline. The retail price for the cushion foundation is £13.99 and although this does seem quite expensive for a Maybelline foundation, I do think that it's worth it as I'm sure I'll get many uses out of it as a little goes a long way.

At the minute, I'm not able to wear mascara because my eyes are constantly itchy because of my hayfever and so I don't want to have a full coverage foundation on because it just makes it look like I forgot mascara. Therefore by wearing this cushion foundation from Maybelline I am able to create a natural makeup look that also allows me to even out my skin-tone.

  1. I haven't tried a cushion foundation, but this one sounds great! I wish they did a lighter one, if this is a little too dark for you!xx

    1. This is the first I've tried and so far I'm liking it. I do too, but I just make sure that its well blended and then it matches in quite well xx

  2. I've wanted to try a cushion foundation for ages! I really like the look of this one, it sounds perfect for the hot weather too. I agree, Maybelline does appear on the higher end of the drugstore, but they do really good offers xx

    1. I was so sceptical at first because I thought it wouldn't give me any coverage at all but its working really well for me, I'd definitely recommend it, especially if your looking for something lightweight. Yeah, I agree, theres a 3 for 2 mix and match in Superdrug at the minute so it wouldn't be as bad too if you were getting something free xx
